ADLF Files Complaint Against Duncan Hunter For His Close Affiliation With the Vaping Industry

The American Democracy Legal Fund has filed a complaint against Congressman Duncan Hunter for his close affiliation with the vaping industry, which violates House Ethics Rules and raises troubling questions about whether Rep. Hunter is putting his constituents or a private industry first.

“The rules are there to ensure that Members of Congress don’t use their positions of power to favor specific companies, brands or industries or to benefit themselves or their personal interests,” said American Democracy Legal Fund President Brad Woodhouse. “Congressman Hunter has violated the letter and spirit of rules against such activity and the Office of Congressional Ethics must investigate his blatant flouting of these rules immediately.”

In February 2016, Duncan Hunter became known as the “vaping congressman” after he used an e-cigarette during a House committee hearing. He has since urged President Trump and U.S. Navy officials to be more favorable towards e-cigarettes. Congressman Hunter also endorsed specific brands and encouraged others to use them. His behavior violates the House Ethics Rules by being too closely affiliated with the industry and endorsing specific products.
